The ShodaiOrochi (初代八岐の大蛇,   ShodaiYamataNoOrochi?) is the Orochi puppet design used in the 1959 Toho film, The Birth of Japan.

Name

The ShodaiOrochi's name comes from shodai (初代?), meaning first generation, and Orochi, which comes from Orochi's Japanese name, Yamata no Orochi (八岐の大蛇?).

Detail

The ShodaiOrochi, in comparison to the more draconian HeiseiOrochi, is closer in design to its mythological origin. It has light grey scales, and has heads which closely resemble that of Manda. This design for Orochi uses wires to move the heads. It also has a snake-like tail.
