The ShodaiHedo (初代ヘド,   ShodaiHedo?) are the Hedorah suit and puppet designs used in the 1971 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Hedorah.

Name

The ShodaiHedo's name comes from shodai (初代?), meaning first generation, and Hedo, which comes from Hedorah's Japanese name, Hedora (ヘドラ?).

Detail

The ShodaiHedo suit has a mossy green, reddish orange and dark gray body. The eyes have red lamps that glow and it has vines all over the body to to give it a trashy, unnatural look. The suit was made to be very soft so that Godzilla could dig in his body. It seems to have a bump on its head, making the right side of its head bigger and more swollen than the left side. The ShodaiHedo also has a long, bushy tail that always is being dragged around the ground.

Trivia

  • During filming of Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Kenpachiro Satsuma suffered a bout of appendicitis and had to have his appendix removed. However, the doctors found the suit too difficult to remove, and had to cut a hole in the suit to reach Satsuma's abdomen. During the operation, Satsuma learnt that painkillers had no effect on him.
