Template:Vehicle Infobox The SPIPs (スピップ号,   Suppipu-gō?) are spaceships created by Toho that first appeared in the 1959 tokusatsu film, Battle in Outer Space. Template:TOC

History

The two SPIPs, SPIP-1 and SPIP-2 were sent out to space on a course for the Moon in order for data to be gathered on the Natarls. As they began to approach the Moon, two guided torpedoes were fired off by the enemy race and were headed straight towards the SPIPs. However, the two crafts' heat-ray cannons easily destroyed the projectiles.

Meanwhile, one of the crew members, Iwomura was being remotely mind-controlled by the Natarls, who ordered him to cut the power to SPIP-1's heat ray. This rendered SPIP-1 defenseless, and SPIP-2 was forced to fire down the remaining projectiles on its own. Despite this setback, the SPIPs were still able to make it to the Moon and had a smooth landing on the surface.

Both SPIPs deployed their respective Moon All Terrain Vehicles, Car 1 from SPIP-1 and Car 2 from SPIP-2. The crew boarded the lunar exploration vehicles, but left Iwomura behind, and drove about the Moon in search of the Natarl base. Eventually, they spotted a suspicious cave and decided to explore it on foot. As the descended deeper and deeper into the cave, the base was found. After damaging it with laser cannons, the crews retreated back to their All Terrain Vehicles and arrived back at base after a Natarl ambush.

Much to their surprise, when they had returned SPIP-1 was but a pile of rubble. While they were busy with the base, Iwomura was controlled once again, this time to destroy the ship. With SPIP-1 destroyed, the crews had no choice but to board SPIP-2, which they managed to safely fly back to Earth.
