Regeneration

From Wikizilla

Rapid cell regeneration is a quality of Godzilla's (and other daikaiju's) biology that gives them the appearance of invulnerability to physical attack.

This quality was examined explicitly in Godzilla Returns, as scientists and other personnel review footage of a military bombardment of Godzilla. The footage reveals a gaping wound in Godzilla's hide upon the impact of a missile, which has apparently completely healed when the smoke has cleared.

Regenerator G-1

In Godzilla 2000: Millennium, scientists Yuji Shinoda and Shiro Miyasaka play godparents to a sample of Godzilla's skin cells. Upon injuring one cell, they observe through a microscope "helper cells" which repair the damaged cell within seconds. Shinoda names the phenomenon "Organizer G-1" ("Regenerator G-1" in the U.S. version). This very property is subsequently adopted by Orga, taking Godzilla's approximate form, in an attempt to survive on Earth's surface.

Other kaiju

Several other kaiju (most clones of Godzilla) have adopted this regenerative ability from Godzilla's physiology:

  • Minya (a similar or same species)
  • Biollante (a genetic hybrid of Godzilla and a rose)
  • Godzilla Jr. (a similarly mutated godzillasaurus)
  • Spacegodzilla (a hybrid of Godzilla and an unknown crystalline life form)
  • Orga (an extraterrestrial presence that assumed Godzilla's form)
  • Destoroyah (Being made up of trillions of microscopic creatures that can respawn to rebuild their current form.
