The M Space Hunter Nebula Aliens (M宇宙ハンター星雲人,   M Uchuu Hantā Seiunjin?, lit. M Space Hunter Nebula People), also known as the Nebulans, are an alien race created by Toho that first appeared in the 1972 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Gigan.

Biology and Appearance[]

The M Space Hunter Nebula Aliens are anatomically and biologically identical to the cockroaches of Earth, but are much larger and possess human-level intelligence. They also have an unsettling ability to don the skin of deceased organisms, like humans, to imitate them perfectly.

Culture[]

Not much is known about these aliens' culture or what even their actual name is. According to the beings themselves, they originated from a planet very similar to Earth which they shared with another sapient alien species. However, this other species ultimately decimated their homeworld's ecosystem through rampant over-industrialization, polluting the landscape and rendering the world uninhabitable. Being physiologically identical to earthly roaches, the M Space Hunter Nebula aliens survived this catastrophe unscathed and built up a thriving society of their own.

At some point, the aliens grew dissatisfied with their homeworld's decayed biosphere and sought to take up residence on a different, more hospitable planet. Due to Earth being identical to their homeworld in nearly every aspect, they chose to settle there, while also making plans to exterminate the native humans, as they noted uncomfortable parallels between them and the race that had destroyed their homeworld.

The M Space Hunter Nebula Aliens in their true form

The M Space Hunter Nebula Aliens first appeared in Godzilla vs. Gigan, where they were stationed on Earth to conquer it with King Ghidorah and Gigan. They set up the World Children's Land, and wore the skin of two recently deceased men. Their plan was uncovered, and they sent Gigan and King Ghidorah to attack Tokyo. Godzilla and Angruirus arrived and fought them, but the aliens fought back the the Godzilla Tower. The humans managed to destroy the tower with dynamite, causing the aliens to turn back into their true form and die.

While not appearing directly, the M Space Hunter Nebula Aliens were contacted by the Seatopians, who requested for Gigan to assist their own monster, Megalon.

Godzilla Island[]

The M Space Hunter Nebula aliens appeared in the series Godzilla Island, offering Gigan's services to the Xilien agent Zaguresu in order to take over Godzilla Island.

Godzilla: Rage Across Time[]

The Nebulans make an appearance in the first issue, revealed to be aiding Kublai Khan's invasion of Japan through controlling Gigan and Megalon. An arrow takes out a Nebulan general's monster controlling device and the two monsters bolt, leaving the Mongol fleet to be destroyed by Godzilla.

Trivia[]

  • According to Chris Mowry in an interview conducted by Toho Kingdom, the Nebulans appeared in some of the mini-series pitches he used to build the story for Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, but they were replaced by the Cryogs since IDW was unable to use any human or alien characters from the Toho films. Likewise, the Seatopians were replaced with the Devonians.[1]
