Hudson Platt, also known by his nickname Hud, was Robert Hawkins' best friend and was asked by Robert's brother, Jason Hawkins, to document the going away party. After the monster attacked the city, he was still filming and caught most of the attack on his video camera. Most of the movie Cloverfield is the footage shot by Hud. Hud had survived the helicopter crash, only to by killed by the monster.

- The name Hud may be a reference to HUD, or Heads-Up Display. A Heads-Up Display, or HUD, is any transparent display that presents data without obstructing the user's view. Although they were initially developed for military aviation, HUDs sre now used in commircal aircraft, automobiles, and other applacations. The term HUD can also refer to the interface used in video games to monitor the player character's status.
