Godzilla (ゴジラ Gojira) is the main protagonist kaiju of the comic series Godzilla in Hell, released in 2015 by IDW.

Name[]

The name "Godzilla" is a transliteration of Gojira (ゴジラ?), a combination of two Japanese words: gorira (ゴリラ?), meaning gorilla, and kujira (鯨 or クジラ), meaning whale.

Design[]

Appearance[]

Due to the different illustrators throughout the series, Godzilla's design changed a couple times. In issue 1, issue 3 and issue 5, Godzilla mostly resembles the Kiryu Saga design, with the larger dorsal fins and jagged design. Issue 2 has Godzilla resemble the 2000 Godzilla design, seen with the green skin and purple dorsal fins. Finally in issue 4 Godzilla's design resembles the GMK design, having completely white eyes, a boxy head and an overall bulkier build.

Personality[]

Despite the comic having little to no dialogue, Godzilla is shown to be determined and fierce. He is intent on returning to the living and as such, has no time for obstacles or anyone who obstructs him. Godzilla is shown to be largely neutral in conflict that doesn't concern him, having no intentions on joining Heaven or Hell's army. And even after the angels save his life, he's just to stubborn to be ruled by one individual. He is also brave enough to stare deities in the face and slaughter their angels and demons in front of them. He's also shown to be very intelligent, as he waited until Ghidorah and Destoroyah fought each other and were distracted before escaping to his next challenge.

However, in Issue 5, It is shown that one point, Godzilla gives up when unable to defeat the Hell Gate Guardian which shows that he does surrender if a challenge is too great for him.

History[]

Godzilla in Hell[]

After a hole to hell opened bellow him, Godzilla would fall in. Looking around he would see a rock tower with the words "ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE" on the rock tower. Godzilla would destroy this tower with his atomic breath before walking off. As he walked he found a nuclear reactor, which Godzilla peered into. The reactor would transform into a grotesque demon, something Godzilla quickly dispatched of. After walking through a cloud of millions of souls, Godzilla would encounter what looked like another Godzilla. This however was another demon, which tried to eat Godzilla. With a nuclear pulse, Godzilla would destroy this demon from the inside out. This pulse would also destroying the surface Godzilla was standing on, causing Godzilla to fall deeper into hell.

Godzilla would look over a city before spotting a demonic representation of Rodan. Godzilla would battle against Rodan before moving onto an icy land where he would battle a demonic Anguirus. Another fight would occur but the ice would crack, causing Godzilla to fall once again, this time battling Varan in an endless sea. Godzilla would defeat Varan, however a demonic King Ghidorah would cause a whirlpool, dragging Godzilla into the depths below.

Godzilla would seemingly have a flash back to before he was banished to Hell, where he would battle against SpaceGodzilla in Rio de Janeiro. After a battle, Godzilla would knock SpaceGodzilla to the ground and fire his atomic breath, destroying the entire planet. Godzilla would wake back up in purgatory, seeing both a group of angels and God, who tried to convince Godzilla into joining them. Godzilla refused this offer, crushing a couple angels in his hands. Godzilla would be thrown back in hell and would be confronted by a swarm of demons as well as SpaceGodzilla. Though SpaceGodzilla would overpower Godzilla, the group of angels aided Godzilla, allowing him to kill SpaceGodzilla. Once the battle was done, the angels tried to convince Godzilla to join them once again. Godzilla wasn't interested and walked off after eating a couple of them.

As Godzilla continued travelling through Hell, he would battle against both King Ghidorah and Destoroyah. Though he seemed to kill the two kaiju, both monsters quickly healed from all injuries that Godzilla had gave them and resumed the battle. After being impaled on the Tokyo Tower, Godzilla would notice a wall surrounding the city the kaiju were battling in. Though Godzilla tried to destroy it, the wall quickly regenerated. With Godzilla being distracted, Destoroyah would slice Godzilla's head off. Despite being decapitated, Godzilla would regenerate from this, forced to fight his two rivals forever. That was until Godzilla tricked Ghidorah and Destoroyah into firing the wall. With the power of Ghidorah's gravity beams, Destoroyah's micro-oxygen beam and Godzilla's atomic breath, a hole would be made in the wall. Godzilla would walk through this hole as everything around him began fading away.

Godzilla continued travelling through Hell, with harsh environments like cold blizzards would bombard him, but Godzilla continued walking on. Godzilla would eventually find a bridge. As he stepped on it, the bridge would crumble under Godzilla's weight, causing the kaiju to fall once again in a pit of stalagmites, destroying some of them and releasing several Hellbats. Godzilla would then sea a large mountain with the Hell Gate Guardian on top of it. Godzilla tried to destroy the demon but failed to do so. Completely giving up, Godzilla allowed himself to be consumed by the Hellbats, leaving nothing but bone. The Hellbats would begin convulsing before growing an eye and reforming Godzilla's body with themselves. The Hellbat-Godzilla then faced off against the Hell Gate Guardian, completely destroying it. Godzilla would then climb the mountain and reach the gate the demon was guarding. The final page of the comic sees Godzilla emerging from the ocean, seemingly escaping the pits of hell.

Abilities[]

Atomic Breath[]

Atomic hellbat beam

Godzilla fires a powered up beam, after his body possesses the Hellbats

Godzilla possesses his Atomic breath, a stream of radiation capable of melting kaiju instantly. Godzilla has been shown destroying multiple hellish entities, structures, and kaiju with relative ease with this weapon. He has even been shown to be able to counter both King Ghidorah's and Destoroyah's beam attacks at once for a short time. However, it has its limits of effectiveness, as Godzilla wasn't able to fire his atomic breath in the presence of the God-Demon, who was a supernatural entity with its own form of durability.

On multiple occasions in the comic, after consuming Angelic and hellish beings, his atomic breath attacks have gotten major boost, allowing him to eviscerate both SpaceGodzilla and the God-Demon.

Atomic Pulse[]

As the Doppelganger Demon was trying to consume him, Godzilla fired an atomic pulse from all around his body, eviscerating the demon.

Strength and combat[]

Godzilla is shown to be able to overpower many different demons easily, as well as overpower Ghidorah and Destoroyah before they resurrected. He was also able to crush SpaceGodzilla's shoulder crystals with his bare hands will no difficulty. But repeated beam attacks are shown to get to him as seen in his fight with Ghidorah and Destoroyah.

Healing[]

Healed after impaled

During his fight with Destoroyah and King Ghidorah, Godzilla is impaled by Tokyo Tower. While it does pierced his hide, the damage is shown to be completely healed seconds later. This may be due to him being a spirit in Hell, although it is unconfirmed.

Durability[]

Godzilla in this comic series has been through a wide variety of punishment. He was able to survive a fall from the surface world to hell and other great falls down through hell. Back on the living world during the battle in Rio, he was able to walk through Spacegodzilla's corona beams before nearly killing the space kaiju, with difficulty.

Force Field[]

When the angles of heaven gave him power, he managed to construct a force field during his fight with Spacegodzilla. It allowed him to walk through SpaceGodzilla's beam attacks effortlessly.
