Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #4 is the fourth issue of Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters. It was released on July 6, 2011.

Description[]

"France is in danger when the mysterious egg that washes ashore begins to hatch, but should the military be worried about what's inside the egg or those creepy kids who found it? Also, a community of monks has a religious experience of the 3-headed variety. And all the while, Godzilla seems hell-bent on coming to America...but hasn't Anguirus already claimed it as his turf? Fight! Fight!"

Plot[]

Three weeks ago, President Odgen awards Sergeant Steven Woods the Medal of Honor. At his childhood home in Los Angeles, Woods reflects on the irony of being awarded a medal for a moment he never wants to relive. He thinks about how his childhood bedroom doesn't even seem real anymore, like he's remembering someone else's life. Steven's mother enters the room and asks her son if he wants a sandwich, but he declines and says he'll be going for a walk. As he walks through the streets of L.A., Woods recalls reading a book while deployed about how the generation that lived through the Great Depression and World War II is considered to possibly be the greatest generation in the history of the United States. Seeing examples of spoiled, gluttonous, and entitled modern Americans on his walk, Woods ponders how this generation would respond to the same demands the greatest generation faced. Woods walks past a television and witnesses a news report about Godzilla (IDW continuity) ravaging Tokyo.

In the present day, in Normandy, France, the French Army prepares to assault Battra (IDW continuity) with a tank. The titanic larva responds by firing a Prism Beam from his horn that obliterates the tank. Minette and Mallorie then command Battra to take them to Paris and make them the queens. Back in America, two news anchors lament the tragedy of the ongoing monster attacks, but quickly change the subject and inform their audience that the cast of the hit reality show Jerseyfied will be coming on the show, as will Woods. Woods waits backstage as a woman enters the room complaining about the Republicans. She apologizes to Woods for being a "Hollywood liberal," but he informs her that he is not a Republican. When she responds that they need more Democrats in the military to combat the "intolerant conservatives," Woods replies that he has seen intolerance go both ways and thinks that political parties are too divisive. She says that Woods will have to pick a side eventually, but he says he picked a side when he put on his uniform. The anchors meanwhile interview the cast of Jerseyfied about their new film, Jerseyfied: Never Stay Sober in 3-D. Woods watches a news report on his phone stating that Godzilla is heading toward North America, where Anguirus has already arrived.

In Paris, Minette and Mallorie raid a toy store and don queen outfits, though they decide they should wear real crowns instead of fake ones. They inform Battra (IDW continuity), who has coiled himself around the Eiffel Tower, to stay put as they head to the museum to steal real crowns. At Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas, the military personnel monitoring the situation discover that Anguirus has begun heading northwest, while Godzilla is heading due east, suggesting the two monsters will converge in Los Angeles. The French army guards the Louvre in Paris, but are incapacitated by Minette and Mallorie's psychic powers. Woods is called back into service to help evacuate Los Angeles before Godzilla and Anguirus arrive, and talks to his mother over the phone, urging her and his father to take shelter if the monsters begin heading in their direction. As the city is evacuated, looting takes place in the streets. Godzilla surfaces at Venice Beach, gaining the attention of Anguirus, who has already entered the city. As the two monsters stare each other down in the heart of L.A., news anchors report that the two are working together. Godzilla immediately blasts Anguirus with his atomic breath, knocking him down and causing the reporters to change their tune and report that they always maintained that the two were enemies. Woods and other military personnel help evacuate civilians, including Woods' mother, as Godzilla and Anguirus clash. However, the battle topples a building onto them. Anguirus curls into a ball and rolls at Godzilla, who swats him aside with his tail. Godzilla sees the Hollywood sign and promptly incinerates it with his atomic breath just before Anguirus tackles him from behind. Godzilla anticipates the surprise attack and punches Anguirus to the ground. Woods crawls out of the rubble and sees the Jerseyfied cast trapped in a limousine calling for help. He ignores their pleas and turns to walk away, just as a blast of atomic breath kills them all.
