The Giant Lizard is a species of lizard that appears in the 1962 Toho film King Kong vs. Godzilla. In the film, it lives on the remote Farou Island. While "Giant Lizard" makes it sound like a kaiju, the animal is in fact at a realistic size - growing to an exhibited size of one meter. It justifiably retains its name "Giant" when put in comparison to one of the character's heads; as that character swings the lizard above his cranium. Since it's appearance in King Kong vs. Godzilla, the character has adopted a statues of curiousity due to it's obscurity, grouping it with monsters such as Maguma, Daigoro, and the turtle skeleton in Mothra vs. Godzilla.
Role in the film
Once on Farou Island, the expedition team find this Giant Lizard while in search of another legendary monster. The Lizard antagonizes the main characters while on of them comically spins the lizard above his head. Scared and surprised in equal measure, they immediately exterminate the lizard via a firearm. It is after this distraction that they hear the earsplitting call of a much larger beast.
